From June 18 to 21, 2024, Osnabrück will be all about numismatics. We are presenting several special collections. Particularly well represented are:
- A collection of Scandinavian coins:
We are delighted to be able to offer you a significant collection of Scandinavian coins. It contains large series of coins from Denmark and Sweden, but also an extensive lot of coins from the Duchy of Schleswig-Holstein. - A collection of German coins from the 19th century:
Almost 300 lots from the collection of a private collector from the Rhineland of German coins from the 19th century are a high-ranking testimony to this central period in economic history. - A collection of Mainz Gold Coins:
The chronological spectrum ranges from the early mintings from the middle of the 14th century based on the Florentine model to the last ducats struck under Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal before the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803.
This is complemented by an attractive selection of coins from the Preussag AG collection, a small special collection from Wismar and a wide range of patterns from the Coenen Collection.

Dear bidders and coin enthusiasts,
On February 1, 2024, we will start the numismatic weekend with our 400th Auction Sale at the Estrel Hotel, Berlin. You can look forward to a firework of extremely rare coins and medals! We are presenting 770 lots with a total estimate of more than 7 million euros.
Our auction begins with another part of the Popken Collection. On offer are 39 Lösers, including spectacular pieces such as a Julius Löser from 1583, minted in Wolfenbüttel, then still Heinrichstadt, or a Löser of three Reichstalers from 1679, minted in Zellerfeld on behalf of Prince Rudolf August von Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel. This is followed by rarities from Anhalt to Württemberg and Austrian estates, or in other words, the spectrum ranges from river gold ducats and heavy gold coins to rare and historically interesting medals and spectacular talers.
We present a wide range of impressive pieces from Europe. They are all characterized by their rarity and condition, and some are extremely important numismatically and have a provenance that goes back a long way. The small French selection, for example, contains "only" a good 30 lots, but among them are so many exceptional pieces. This is followed by a rich selection of British large gold, including a sample of a 5 pound piece from 1820 with a smooth rim. There is also a small Italian series to discover. Whether Poland, the Czech Republic, Transylvania or Russia, the coins and medals on offer from these countries are among the highlights of this auction.
Let's end this preamble with a look at the "Overseas" section, including a small series of rare and exquisitely preserved Chinese coins, an Oban from the Man'en era and a small lot of US gold coins.
We hope you enjoy studying our new auction offer!
Best regards from Osnabrück

Dear bidders and coin enthusiasts,
As part of
our Spring Auction Sales 2024, we are pleased to present to you the
Professor Heinz Tursky Collection with coins from the Austrian Emperor Franz
Josef I (1848-1916) in our eLive Premium Auction 407.
Emperor Franz Josef came to the throne in 1848 with the March Revolution at the age of just 18. A few years later, he married his cousin, the beautiful Sisi, whose image still enchants tourists from all over the world today. The harsh defeats at Magenta and Solferino in 1859, the defeat in the war against the Prussians in 1866, the separatist tendencies of the parts of the country inhabited by Slavs: Franz Josef had to hold his multi-ethnic state together at a time when intellectuals were raving about the nation state. He failed in this. After the murder of Sarajevo, he slid into the catastrophe of the First World War with his eyes wide open. The 86-year-old Franz Josef dutifully carried out his duties until the very last day. It was not until the afternoon of November 21, 1916 that he lay down to die. His personal physician pronounced his death shortly after 9 pm. Franz Josef was thus spared from witnessing the dismemberment of his multi-ethnic empire in the Treaty of Saint-Germain.
The diversity of Franz Josef's territory is shown by his varied coinage with mints such as Karlsburg (today Romania), Kremnitz (today Slovakia), Milan (today Italy), Nagybanya (today Romania), Prague (today Czech Republic), Venice (today Italy) and of course Vienna.
We hope you enjoy studying the auction.
